On August 27, Beijing time, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) convened its fifth video conference to discuss issues such as the preparation for the series of meetings of the 61st WIPO general assembly and the operation of the global intellectual property system. The meeting was presided over by Francis gorui, director general of WIPO. Shen Changyu, director of the State Intellectual Property Office of China, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Since novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, Shen Changyu highly appreciated WIPO's positive role in strengthening information communication, policy coordination and promoting international cooperation in fighting against the epidemic situation in various intellectual property institutions worldwide. He pointed out that at present, the global epidemic situation is still very serious. WIPO has made full use of various resources and ways to ensure its normal operation, and all work has been carried out in an orderly manner. The preparatory work for the series of meetings of the 61st session of the general assembly of WIPO members to be held in September has also made positive progress. For the first time, the conference was held in a combination of online and offline mode, which is convenient for delegates from all countries to participate in the conference remotely. On behalf of the State Intellectual Property Office of China, Shen Changyu wished the series of meetings of the current session of the general assembly of Member States a complete success, and expressed his thanks to the director general of WIPO and the Secretariat for their efforts to make the session a success. China is willing to continue to work with WIPO and its member states to jointly cope with the challenges posed by emergencies to the global IP service system, ensure the orderly operation of the IP service system, and provide high-quality services for global IP users.
At the meeting, relevant heads of intellectual property institutions from China, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland, as well as the European Intellectual Property Office and European Patent Office attended and spoke.
